About Me

I've been crocheting for over 40 years. My mom taught me how to knit, embroider and sew when I was a kid. She made me, and I had to wear, lots of home-made clothes (HATED IT!), but it's only been in recent years that I am realizing what a talented fiber artist she was.

Another inspiration was my Aunt Vi whose family we visited in Wisconsin every summer when I was a kid. She was primarily a quilter, but I absorbed her love of fiber arts and was the recipient of several books on knitting which, sadly to say, I no longer have. She also taught me how to crochet during my early teens.

I taught myself macrame in my twenties and did a little rug-hooking in my thirties. I did a lot of knitting and crocheting over those years as well, but settled on crochet sometime in my thirties.

My desire to crochet waxed and waned over the next 20 years until I joined the Crochet Guild of America in 2004. Now, I can't get enough of it. It has expanded my perception of crochet and taken me down new paths, like free-form crochet, that I could never have imagined. I've even picked up the knitting needles again, something I never thought I'd do.

I've passed the skills of knitting and crochet on to my daughter, who is living the high life on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. I joined her there in late January 2007.

My goal is to follow my passion for crochet in particular and fiber arts in general wherever it leads me, and to relax and enjoy the journey. I also want to pass on useful crochet and fiber-arts- related information gained along the way to my readers.
